1P-LSD or 1-Propionyl-d-lysergic acid diethylamide is a semi-synthetic psychedelic substance of lysergamide class. As visible from the name, it is closely related to LSD and has been known to produce very similar effects as LSD. Its subjective effects include geometric visual hallucinations, appetite loss, numbing of senses, and time distortion. All of these effects are produced due to its action on the serotonin receptors of the brain. Its risk profile and toxicity are presumed to be similar to LSD but due to it being a research drug, there is no concrete evidence to support these claims. 

1P-LSD belongs to the lysergamide family and is named after the propionyl group bound to the nitrogen of the polycyclic indole group of LSD. It is theorized to act as a prodrug for LSD and LSD is detected in the body when it is consumed. This is since 1P-LSD cannot exert a psychedelic effect on its own and even shows only 38% potency when compared to LSD (based on a study in mice). When compared to other psychedelics like LSA, ayahuasca, and psilocybin, 1P-LSD is faster paced and more stimulating in regards to the style of its cognitive and physical effects such as time distortion, visual hallucinations and numbing of senses. 

The subjective effects of 1P-LSD are reported to be so similar to LSD that they are almost indistinguishable from one another apart from potency and it produces the same ‘acid trip’ as LSD. It is usually regarded as a very energetic stimulant and encourages physical activities such as running, dancing, etc when consumed. The ‘body high’ it produces is very intense when compared to visual and cognitive effects. The sensation of ‘high’ has a mostly steady presence when it is consumed and hits the limit once the peak is reached but it can be spontaneous for some people. The physical euphoria effect is not assuredly inducible and can manifest as physical discomfort for some people. It also produces an effect of enhanced tactile sensations when consumed at moderate levels which can manifest as the feeling of being aware of every single nerve ending present in one’s body at the same time. Stamina enhancement is comparatively milder than stimulants. Visual effects include color enhancements, pattern recognition enhancement, and distortions such as drifting. Color shifting, after images, scenery slicing and tracers are also common effects produced by its consumption. Hallucinatory states are less consistent with its use when compared to other psychedelics and they include transformations, internal and external hallucinations.

1P-LSD also shows some common physical side effects such as mild nausea, increased heart rate, and muscle contractions, vasoconstriction, and increased perspiration. Seizures are also a potential side effect of its use as has been reported from LSD use but it is mainly thought to be a risk for those who are already predisposed to experiencing seizures or are in physical distressing states such as dehydration, undernourishment, and fatigue.
